Principal Cornet - Mark McKnight

Mark McKnight has been a member of Ballyduff Silver Band since 1994. During his time as a member of the band he has played 2nd Cornet, Soprano Cornet, Flugel Horn and Solo Cornet.

He started playing the Cornet when he was 9 years old. He learnt to play the instrument at Mossley Primary School and his tutor was Alan Hunter. During this time he played with the 55th Old Boys Junior Band and after a few years advanced to the Senior Band.

After a few years with the 55th, he decided to try a new hobby and left the band and stopped playing the cornet. After trying several different activities, such as
Kick-boxing, Chess and Badminton, he decided after a year or two that he missed playing the cornet.

His local band was Ballyduff Silver Band, so he decided to start playing the cornet again and joined the band. Ballyduff were quite an active marching band as well, so he had to learn to march and play the cornet at the same time. This was challenging at first, but he soon got used to it!
