Busy Summer Continues For BallyduffThe band continue to be extremely busy. On a rather cold Saturday at Abbot's Cross, a smaller than usual band gave a very interesting performance of mostly marches, mainly because of the many dark clouds overhead! Lessons have been learnt from past experiences when the music folders got soaked and have taken days to dry out!! Thankfully the rain held off until 2.50, but a sharp shower had the players running for cover and bringing the performance to a hasty close. The weather hadn’t improved much by the following Wednesday, when the band were at Loughshore Park, Jordanstown. A few more new pieces got an airing that night, unfortunately the colder weather had an affect on the number of people listening! Saturday 28th June brought the annual excursion to Ballymoney for the Mayor’s Parade. Seated on the Borough Council’s float, the band had the pleasure of heading the parade from the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre through the town before returning to the centre. Hundreds of people lined the route and the band was given a great reception in the town centre, obviously a few of the locals recognizing the band’s conductor who was starring on percussion!! It was noted that the driver this must have thought he was driving a Ferrari, as he made the journey in record time this year!! A few of the band, Jenny and Doria Hill, Paul Hamill and Claire Templeton, then travelled to Omagh the same evening to guest with the Murley Silver Band from Fivemiletown. The band’s conductor, William Hill, has been helping Murley over the last few months and a few Ballyduff members have been helping in for a number of engagements, Fiona Bennett, Jenny Hill and Matthew Weir all played in the band’s recent BBC recording. Wednesday 2nd July brought another evening performance at Loughshore, Jordanstown. The weather was much kinder and a good crowd were there to hear the band. Sunday 6th sees the band at Lady Dixon Park before a break until the 17th July when the band will return to Hazelbank Park.
